What Inspires Me?
My work aims to mimic true life, which is my inspiration. Rather than reflection through realism, the most important component is the mood, the feeling. I am attempting to reflect the warmth, the color, and the vivacious energy of life in my art. I am inspired by people, pop culture, art and music. I create work the reflects how I feel, and what I deserve. Investigation Concept (19/20): Concentration Concept (18/19): I am very interested in the era of the seventies. I have always been inspired by its music, fashion, and mindset. This was an era of hippies, love, psychedelics and openness. I want to translate these themes into my own art, and express these cultural motifs through images which represent both famous images from the 70s as well as images which reflect everyday life. I feel the impact of this culture specifically lives on through our generation, as the seventies is the era in which most of our parents lived out there formative years. I plan to express the feeling and vibration of the 70s through my pieces, emphasizing exaggerated color and texture. I also plan to balance cultural icons with simple objects to create a fuller understanding of the culture. I don’t plan on portraying events, I would rather look at the people and the life of the decade. Technique: A unique technique I utilize is emphasizing texture. By utilizing different brushes and well as varied concentrations of acrylic and oils, Not only are the shapes and forms reflected, but the paint itself acts as a form, with dimensions and texture. In this investagation, one tool in particular became an inspiration-- the palette knife. Using different knifes, strokes, etc. taught my how to vary texture and creature more fascinating work. |
